2011-12-19 Yesterday, Cinie ran in Troja in the christmas jumping competition, with a clear round. She was not fast enough to place, unfortunately, but we are still happy that she was able to represent Hucul Club at the event.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13 we have taken Rhodos, the colt, away from his mother Cikada at Ceske Budejovice agri school, to be weaned at Zmrzlik. Here he joined a kindergarten together with the offspring of three other mares. They became friends very quickly and don't seem to miss their mothers too much.
2011-10-10 On October 9, the Czech TV2 aired a 15-minute programme with Ralf, the founder of TIS and Hucul Club, titled "The Message of Otakar Leisky". Ralf is talking about Hucul Club, conservation, and people's moral obligation to Nature and the planet. [See program write-up and linked video here].
2011-09-28 Spectators at the Horse 2011 exhibition and trade show in Lysa nad Labem got their money’s worth, the weather cooperated and the horses were great. . [Other photos (by Klára) here]. Our two mares and the foal were introduced with this commentary.

Today, our Hucul Ufo participated in a live theatre production for ill children, in the Motol Hospital. The TY-JA-TR ensemble presented Fidlova?ka, a classic that included a live horse this time. However, the greatest admiration earned Ufo’s ride up in the elevator. That made even the experienced hospital team to take a second look. [Photo here]
Over the September 23-25 weekend we will take part in the Horse 2011 exhibition and trade show in Lysa nad Labem. We will show two mares, Mirek Fencl’s Aida and our Fortuna with her colt Robinson. We hope they will be a success.
2011-08-30 Trekking in Posazavi (photo). Klara rode her mare, Angie, who actually is not all Hucul, and Meg rode Citadella, who, on the other hand, is a purebread Hucul of the genetic resource registry. Their route crossed many interesting places, including Blanik and Ledec n/S, ending near Kutna Hora. All that (more than 160km) they managed in three days, carrying all their gear, including sleeping bags and mats. They rested then a little at grandma's place, made a few short trips, and then returned back around Jevany and Velke Popovice, crossing the freeway as well as both Vltava and Berounka rivers on their way home. That was "only" a little over 100 km, and took them three days again. The girls say they enjoyed themselves very much, and both mares returned in great shape and without any problems whatsoever. Our admiration and congratulations to all four of them!
2010-07-10 After a hiatus of some ten years, our Huculs have competed in an endurance race, last Saturday, July 9. [Photos] We took two mares, Citadela and Arnika, to Borotin near Tabor, and signed them up for the grade Z competition; two loops of about 22 km each. Arnika was ridden by Lenka Littmanová and Citadela by Klára Saláková. The crew for both of them consisted of Lesa, Monca, and Cenda the dog. It was very nice to have the Huculs made welcome and finding many fans. It shows that Hucul Club is still a well-known entity in Czech endurance, which gives one a warm feeling, of course. And to make it even better, Klara and Citadela won their category. Lenka and Arnika ended up, in the same category, in last place (fifth), but it didn’t spoil our day. Arnika simply isn’t conditioned enough as yet, she narrowly passed the vet check after the first loop, while Citadela simply sailed through. But it was a good training for her, anyway. The ride was great, overall, more than 50 horses participated. The joy from the victory of one of our mares was just the cherry on the cake. We hope it won’t take another ten years before we set out for another ride.
2011-07-06 Hucul mares Babeta, Tajga and Aida travelled six days to reach Snezka. They covered 200 kilometres from their home barn at Lysa nad Labem. “This expedition should demonstrate that a mountain horse can manage even relatively inaccessible mountains. Snezka represented a kind of mythical goal for us,” as the Czech TV cited Lesa. Western club Lysá nad Labem organised the ride to celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the founding of Hucul Club – a symbolic act to promote the breeding and rescue efforts. [Here’s a brief Czech Television news report about the event] [More photos of the expedition here]
